"The Spirit is Strong but the Flesh is Weak"

It is with great sorrow that I had to write this. My acquaintance with Monica can be remembered in the following words. Leadship. Fate. Loving. Sociable. Brave & Courageous. Leadership - In the mid-eighties when she was the Vice President of Membership Development of the Hong Kong Jayceettes I was introduced to her, our chemistry just clicked. Later when she asked me to take up the Publication Director post, without hesitation I accepted under her leadership. Fate - Years passed and we were all busy with our separate lives. By fate, we met up again across thousand of miles in Toronto in the late eighties. That was when our personal friendship really began. Loving and Sociable - There are a few Jayceettes members who have also called Toronto home. We always took the opportunities to meet up and chit-chat. As a guest to our kids birthday parties, Monica always expressed her loving character towards kids. (I recently found out she was such a loving and caring teacher). When our kids have grown up, we loved getting together whenever we could. Sociable Monica would always share her latest travel and teaching experiences and updates with us. We always had a blast. Brave & Courageous - The sad news came when she informed us of her cancer diagnosis. I have not encountered anyone who was very upfront and open about her illness. Her positive, brave and courageous attitude towards treatments was so admirable, no matter how invasive the treatments were. Guided by her strong religious belief she possessed a determination to get well and never give up attitude. This taught me a great deal. Monica had shown us to overcome lifes adversity and live life to the fullest. I am blessed to have known her. She will be missed by all. To quote Monica: The Spirit is strong but the flesh is weak. Monica, May You Rest In Peace!
