Obituary for Richard Cargill Stockton Wise

Richard Cargill Stockton Wise
In his 91st year, Richard passed away peacefully at Mackenzie Health in Richmond Hill, Ontario on Tuesday June 26th, 2018.

Beloved husband of Margaret (Maggi), married for over 43 years. Loving father of Victoria Wise (Steven Tschipper) and Janet Durnford (Andrew) and proud grandfather of Jessica and Bryan Tschipper and Katie and William Durnford. Son of the late Phyllis Evelyn Cargill Wise of Toronto and the late Richard Stockton Wise of Canton, Ohio and survived by his sister Patricia Bacque.

Richard was born in Canton, Ohio, USA and moved to Canada with his mother and sister when he was 4 years old and they lived with his grandmother and aunt in Toronto, Ontario. He attended Crescent School, Upper Canada College and then studied at the University of Toronto, where he obtained a Bachelor of Architecture degree. Richard had a successful and fulfilling career, working as a Partner at the architectural firm Zeidler Roberts where he specialized in the design of hospitals.

Richard was a true gentleman who will be fondly remembered and deeply missed. He loved spending time with family and friends, entertaining with Maggi in their beautiful home and under their garden marquee in the summer months. He really enjoyed watching and cheering on his grandchildren at their hockey games and dance competitions. He also always looked forward to catching up with old friends over lunch at the Royal Canadian Military Institute and at the annual Old Boy events at Crescent School and Upper Canada College. He was a very knowledgeable man and in his spare time one of his favourite things to do was sit and read about history and current issues. He even attended weekly lectures right up until recently. Richard also loved animals, enjoyed going to the theatre, opera, playing the piano, as well as skiing, racquet sports and going for a walk around the neighbourhood pond.

Richard will be laid to rest later this year in his mother’s family plot (Cargill) at Walkerton Cemetery in Walkerton, Ontario. As per his wishes, there will be no formal services or visitation. As expressions of sympathy, in lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Salvation Army. Online condolences can be made at www.chapelridgefh.com.
