Obituary for Kushal Kumar Khanna
Kushal Kumar Khanna passed away peacefully at home on Monday March 27, 2023, surrounded by his loving wife, daughter, and son. He was a hardworking, honest man who was devoted to and loved his family. He was passionate about music and good food and will be missed by all who knew him.
Kushal left India and came to Canada at a young age in the late 60’s. He owned his own Texaco, but his exquisite taste for music brought him pure joy. He has played alongside many great musicians and artists from India, Canada, and other counties – many of whom remain his closest and dearest friends till this day. Kushal had his own band the Sur Bahaar Orchestra. The band backed up the performances of distinguished artists in the Indian, Indo-Caribbean, and South Asian community, at a time when these communities needed representation. The band continued to grow through the decades, providing many musicians and artists the opportunity to develop professionally. Until his recent passing, Kushal continued to provide sound engineering services to these communities and was revered by many for having an ear specifically tuned to the unique sound of their music and instruments.
Family and friends may pay their respects at the visitation on Wednesday April 5, 2023, from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Chapel Ridge Funeral Home located at 8911 Woodbine Avenue, Markham, ON L3R 5G1.
The Funeral Service will be held on Thursday April 6, 2023, from 10:00 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Chapel Ridge Funeral Home located at 8911 Woodbine Avenue, Markham, ON L3R 5G1, and will be followed by cremation at Highland Hills Funeral Home & Cemetery located at 12492 Woodbine Avenue, Gormley, ON L0H 1G0.
