Obituary for Blossom Chin

DULCIE BLOSSOM CHIN, fondly known as, Blossom, was born in St. Mary, Jamaica on May 11, 1928 to ALBERT and MURIEL VIVELYN FUNG CHUNG (Mamma Fung).

She was the eldest of four, survived by her sister, Rosemarie Buck; predeceased by her sister, Monica Gill; and her brother, Robert (Robbie) Chung.

Her story is that she was slated to go to China at an early age, but was rescued by her grandmother, Matilda Reid (Grannie), because she cried so much.

In addition to her regular schooling, she attended the Chinese Benevolent Association of Jamaica, as well as, Secretarial School.

She met and married, Lester, the love of her life in August 1947. They lived in Crooked River briefly and relocated to Chapelton in 1949 where they established a very successful business until they migrated to Canada in 1976.

Blossom was very civic-minded and served as Justice of the Peace in Clarendon. She was a perfectionist and sewed beautifully. She was an excellent baker and an avid gardener. Both Lester and herself travelled extensively. They were both devout Catholics. She served on the church choir until her illness prevented her from doing so.

She was extremely loyal and devoted to her friends. Family meant everything to her. The HOUSE ON THE HILL was the drop-in center and a port in the storm…to ALL.

Blossom, despite her illness, maintained her poise and dignity through to the end. We feel a profound loss. May she rest in peace.

She is survived by her sister Rosemarie Buck and her eight children: Dave (Heather), Judy, Suzanne, Peter (Patricia) , Paul (Judi), Raymond, Karen (Cliff), and Julianne.
