Obituary for Ernest Balogh

Born in Hungary, married in 1954 to Maria soon followed by the birth of their first daughter, Elizabeth in 1956 then Ildiko in 1961.

In his early career he was a chauffeur until he defected and immigrated to Canada in 1967. He had only a small amount of money and no knowledge of the English language. He worked numerous odd jobs to establish himself until he was able to fulfill his dream of owning his own dump truck and being self-employed. His life became complete when his family was able to join him in 1970.

Through the years he enjoyed various activities such as reading books and newspapers, discussing politics, playing chess and enjoyed travelling.

In his retirement years he was involved in giving back to the community and taking lots of long walks or bicycle rides since physical activity was of importance. He also enjoyed socializing with various groups of friends on a regular basis.

His life of 88 years was blessed with relatively good health, loving family and wonderful grandchildren, Andrea, Robbie and Emily.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Mackenzie Health Centre or the Hungarian Cultural Centre.
